Due to guests coming over for Christmas, I made so much progress and finally felt proud of myself! Let's summarize the last year and ten months first, and I will definitely return in April with a 2 year update.
My main goal with this style journey is to obviously get some aspect of my life in order after the pandemic started, but also record my thoughts and progress after getting inspired by crafters and influencers and irl acquaintances working on their own homes and personal style. I want my home to make me happy and relaxed after work, and since I'm not going out and traveling as much as I used to because of the pandemic, I don't have an excuse that I'm too busy to clean (except I do get busy lol). I haven't kept up with logging as much as I should since I tend to clean and decorate in a short burst after long periods of inactivity. But I finally found a system and philosophy that makes me happy in regards to tidying and decorating.
1. Use the stuff I hoard to decorate seasonally. I feel much more relaxed about acquiring fanmerch (to support artists in this troubled time) because I am switching things out quarterly, so eventually everything I own will get a chance to shine and make me happy to reminisce. I got this idea from reading Marie Kondo's second book, in which she suggests ways to respect things that still spark joy but seriously have no use in daily life (like knick knacks.)
2. Make small cleaning tasks a daily habit, focus on easy to achieve goals. I outlined this in my tumblr, but I love the idea of making your bed everyday, since the bed is such a huge component of your room, therefore a neat bed is a huge stress relief and also healthy for you. Cleaning as you cook or setting 10 minutes after your work to clear up your workspace are 2 other habits I'm trying to incorporate.
3. Disregard all styling by influencers, but celebrate their progress (even if it's a little jazzed up for an audience) and celebrate my own progress like I'm one of them, too!
All right, now back to the room by room update, which I'm excited to log. If you don't remember, I wanted to have different themes for each room of my house, so it is eclectic, but life is short.
